Video: New STONE TEMPLE PILOTS Lineup Performs At Ninth Annual MusiCares MAP Fund Benefit
May 31, 2013The new lineup of STONE TEMPLE PILOTS — featuring Robert DeLeo (bass),Dean DeLeo (guitar) and Eric Kretz (drums) alongside LINKIN PARK singer Chester Bennington — performed last night (Thursday, May 30) at the ninth annual MusiCares MAP Fund benefit concert at Club Nokia in Los Angeles, California. The show, which honored Bennington and legendary skateboarder Tony Alva, featured additional performances by Mix Master Mike, Slash, Duff McKagan, Tony Alva's CHICKEN NOODLE PROJECT and Ida Maria.
Bennington was honored with the Stevie Ray Vaughan Award for his dedication and support of the MusiCares MAP Fund, and for his commitment to helping other addicts with the addiction recovery process. All proceeds will benefit the MusiCares MAP Fund, which provides members of the music community access to addiction recovery treatment regardless of their financial situation.
STP made a surprise appearance on May 18 at a Los Angeles-area radio festival and debuted Bennington on vocals, playing six old songs while also premiering a new single, "Out Of Time".
Speaking with RollingStone.com at last night's event, Bennington stated about STONE TEMPLE PILOTS' plans for the immediate future: "We don't have a label. Everything we're doing is on our own, so we're just taking it one track at a time. We would love to sit down and hammer out a record, but the reality is we're gonna make music, we're gonna make a lot of it, and we're gonna be in a position to release a single at a time, go out and really give people music the way they want to get it. It is a good position to be in, and for us, all we care about is going out, making the legacy as great as it needs to be, as great as people expect it to be, and coming out with new music that lives up to that standard."
Regarding his position in the band, Bennington said: "When you get together and put a new piece in, there's a whole different energy. For us, the creative juices have just been flowing — we've been writing, we have tons of great ideas. Next week we're going back in the studio and hammering out some more music."
In addition to "Out Of Time", STONE TEMPLE PILOTS performed "Wicked Garden", "Big Bang Baby", "Vasoline" and "Trippin' On A Hole In A Paper Heart" at the Club Nokia benefit concert . They concluded the evening by bringing out Slash and Duff McKagan for a rendition of MOTT THE HOOPLE's "All The Young Dudes".
